Retail Therapy: Connecticut Style

By Chrissy Timreck

Chrissy hails from Connecticut and moved back over a year ago after living the good life in Boston. The change of pace has done her well and she truly enjoys living, working, and playing in her home state. Working in the field of marketing and communications Chrissy hopes that her posts will entice others to check out the great state of  CT!

If there is one thing I know I can do well and truly enjoy doing it at the same time that has to be shopping! I have always had a passion for fashion and I love to indulge in a little “retail therapy” from time to time, but even when funds are limited, I still enjoy window shopping. Connecticut has its share of mega-malls, but when it comes to a truly unique shopping experience, I head to The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor or The Shops at Somerset Square in Glastonbury.

Over the past several years, the “outdoor mall” has gained momentum: with a sprawling layout that includes perfectly manicured grass, beautiful seasonal flowers, speakers piped into the ground with pleasant music and benches to relax, both shopping destinations offer all of these amenities. Shopping becomes an experience at these places, as people bring their dogs for a walk and stores set out water bowls for them on warm days and people are encouraged to stroll the cobblestone walkways.

Of course, fashion does not take a backseat at both of these destinations! With stores ranging from Anthropologie and White House Black Market (two of my favorites), to Brooks Brothers and J Crew for men, everyone is included in the shopping experience. The shops offer retail discounts all the time and their ever-changing storefront displays are a treat to the eyes. The Shops at Somerset Square also offers a massage studio and The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk has beautiful jewelry stores and a pet store.

Feeling famished from all that shopping?! Pull up at chair at Burtons Grill at Evergreen Walk and have your taste buds be tempted by some of the best food and service I have experienced. Somerset Square has two fabulous dining options: Max Amore for Italian and Max Fish for seafood specialties.

Rain or shine these two shopping destinations are open all year-round, so if you are in the mood for a unique shopping mecca, be sure to check them out!
